HOLODOMOR EL HOLOCAUSTO OLVIDADO
Holodomor (
The Holodomor
(Great Hunger in Ukrainian) was one of the largest genocides perpetrated by the
Soviet Union, in which millions of human beings were annihilated by starvation.
Among the victims were Ukrainians, Norca-Caucasians and Kazakhs. In addition
the famine affected up to 40 million people throughout the USSR.
mayor consenso.

of 1933. The most conservative calculations speak of almost 2 million dead and
the riskiest raise the figure to 10 million. But 7,000,000 is the number with
the highest consensus.
For years the
Holodomor was a reason for absolute silence, both on the part of the Soviet
Union, and by the rest of the world. Only when the USSR fell in 1991 did
numerous nations and a large number of historians begin to recognize the event
as genocide. In fact, Ukraine described the Holodomor as a xenophobic mass
extermination against the Ukrainian people, motivated by the communists' hatred
of that nation for its desire to be independent; But the truth was that many
other regions suffered the devastating famine. Whether it was the
historical or moral recognition of the events between 1933-1934 in the
so-called Holodomor, it was one of the greatest genocides committed in history
and one of the great horrors that lived the world in the twentieth century.
Actualmente,
Currently,
more than 20 countries recognize the Holodomor as genocide, but Russia is not
among them. Since 2006, the fourth Saturday in November, Ukrainians light
candles throughout the country in memory of the victims.
PERO…¿PORQUÉ SUCEDIÓ ESTO? ¿CUÁLES FUERON LAS CAUSAS?BUT ... WHY HAPPENED THIS? WHAT WERE THE CAUSES?
Perhaps the
most true cause of the disaster was Stalin's hatred of collectives such as the
Ukrainian, Cacau, or Kazakh, whom he punished for the sole purpose of blaming
them for his failed economic policy. Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Ciscaucasia were
the most heavily punished regions since Stalin designed special plans for these
shortly after their accession to power in 1924. The main one was the beginning
of forced collectivization in 1929 which ended with the deportation of almost 2
million peasants To colonize the inhospitable regions of Russia, leaving the empty
fields of skilled workers.
ejecutadas.
The State
Political Bureau (GPU) detachments practiced so abusive grain and grain
searches that they condemned the soil not to have the necessary time or
sufficient seeds for new harvests. These demands led to these places suffering
a rural crisis and food shortage unprecedented. The "Law of the
Spikes" decreed in 1932, was an initiative to subjugate all those who
stood against the requisitions. The law provided for the arrest and conviction
of all individuals who stole a spike of wheat or barley to eat. Under this
"Law of the Spikes" about 125,000 people were imprisoned and another
5,400 executed.
Since
November 1932, the Caucasus, was a focus of resistance to abusive agrarian
collectivizations. The communists did not ignore the complaints of this group, and
began a tough campaign of deportation. By the end of the year, 71,236
Caucasians had been sent to concentration camps, reaching the figure to 268,091
in 1933. Something similar happened in Kazakhstan. As in the countryside there
was a climate of war between the agrarian groups and the GPU troops, the
solution taken by Stalin was simple: exterminating millions of peasants by
brute force was impossible, so he would put an end to them in the way Faster
through forced hunger. The decree was for the peasants who had not delivered
the crops, that is, the majority. So the peasants moved to the cities (mostly
Ukrainians).
Since 2006,
in Ukraine the Holodomor is commemorated every fourth Saturday of November. On
November 28, 2006 the Ukrainian parliament passed a law declaring the massacre
as genocide. On January 13, 2010, the Ukrainian Court of Appeal ruled that the
leaders of the Soviet government had been guilty of that genocide. However, none
of the promoters and executors was tried and condemned in life for the fact.
Lazar Kaganovich, one of the most notorious guilty of the massacre, almost
survived Soviet communism itself, died in 1991.
The Ukrainian
Parliament recognized it in 2008 as a genocide and the European Parliament
considered it a crime against humanity. However, the coming to power in 2010 of
Viktor Yanukovych, of strong relations with Moscow, reversed the process of
revision of the past and determined that the Holodomor was not a genocide but a
tragedy without culprits.
